The Verkehrshistorische Arbeitsgemeinschaft EVAG eV (VHAG) (Transport History Working Group) was founded in 1988 and is dedicated to preserving the history of public transport in Essen and bringing it to life. With approximately 210 members, the association is committed to the restoration and maintenance of historic trams and buses, which are presented to the public at various events and special tours.
Historical rides – nostalgia on Essen’s streets
VHAG regularly organizes rides with historic vehicles to offer Essen residents and interested parties the opportunity to experience the development of local public transport firsthand. One example of this is the use of the 888 railcar and the 3902 single-decker bus during the "Frohnhauser Mai" (Frohnhauser May) in May 2023, when the historic vehicles ran on lines 109 and 160, delighting numerous passengers.
