A piece of history on rails – that's the Krefeld Schluff. As one of the oldest private railways in the country, this popular train runs through Krefeld. Thanks in part to great support from all sides.

The association "Schluff and Historic Transport Krefeld e. V." has made it its mission to ensure the preservation of the Schluff tram and historic transport vehicles through financial and non-material support. Anyone can become a member. The annual membership fee can be set according to individual means and interests.

The Krefeld railway was founded in 1868. The name "Schluff" is reminiscent of the hissing sound of the locomotive, which is similar to that of a shuffling slipper – in the Lower Rhine dialect "Schluffe".

Monument with many supporters

Today, the Schluff is operated as a museum railway by SWK MOBIL, supported by the associations "Schluff und historische Verkehr Krefeld" (Schluff and Historic Transport Krefeld), "Freunde der Eisenbahn Krefeld e.V." (Friends of the Krefeld Railway), and "Interessengemeinschaft Schienenverkehr Krefeld e.V." (Krefeld Rail Transport Interest Group), the SWK's Bus and Rail Heritage Department, and, since 2010, "Hafen Krefeld GmbH & Co. KG" (Krefeld Port Ltd. & Co. KG), which operates the Krefeld Rhine port. The rolling monument is primarily financed through donations and association membership fees – and, of course, no Schluff ride would be possible without the many volunteers.

Scheduled and special services

From May to September, the "Schluff" runs three times a day every Sunday. This nostalgic ride on Krefeld's historic steam train takes you from St. Tönis via Krefeld to one of the most beautiful excursion areas in the Lower Rhine region – Hülser Berg.

The truly special Schluff experience: Whether a ride with Santa Claus, into marital bliss or renting the entire Schluff – anyone looking for something truly special will find it in the Schluff, even outside of the scheduled operating days.
