The Hanover Tramway Museum in Sehnde-Wehmingen houses an impressive collection of over 100 historic tram vehicles from various eras and cities. For almost 50 years, the museum has been dedicated to preserving and presenting these testimonies to transport history. Visitors can view restored trams and experience rides on selected vehicles on the museum grounds, illustrating the development of the tram from horse-drawn trams to the modern light rail system.
Restoration and maintenance of historic trams
The Hanover Tram Museum's collection includes vehicles from over 60 German and several European transport companies. A key focus is on the restoration and operational preservation of selected exhibits. Thanks to the dedication of the association's members, many vehicles have been visually refurbished or completely restored, allowing them to be returned to service today. Visitors have the opportunity to ride on these historic trams and experience the technology of bygone eras up close.

Thematic focuses of the vehicle collection
The museum's vehicle collection covers various eras and vehicle types. Particular emphasis is placed on West and East German two-axle trams, open-plan trams, and the basic types of German articulated trams. Another focus is on work vehicles such as grinding cars, locomotives, and freight cars, which are rarely preserved in their original condition. This diversity allows visitors to trace the technical development and various applications of trams over time.
